(Rudolph, August, William) Shack in center has a donkey engine which pulled vessels up on the ways. Iron-cutting machine cut lengths of iron rod for strengthening planking of 12" x 4" as in NONPAREIL (2 mast schooner) and scow schooners. [CR][CR]House on the left was home of Rudolph Schulz. It was later moved across Evans (formerly 5th Ave.) so that a loft could be made for the shipyard. (House may still stand.)[CR][CR]Rudolph was shot by the dog pound man, on the street in front of the men in this photo. See newspaper for photo or drawing of the incident - ca. 1905). Rudolph was working - had hammer in hand - saw pound man and grabbed the dog as the net descended over both; then the pound man shot him.
