R.P. Rithet (built 1892; bark, 3m) crew members at work on deck sewing sails, 1915
The man at the right is Ernest Aderman. See also J09.01760 pl. Master information file says: "Sail making aboard the R.P. RITHET. This steel bark was built by Charles Connell (who built BALCLUTHA) in Glasgow for C. Brewer & Co. and bought from a later owner, Welch & Co., by Captain Matson in 1908. An engine was fitted in 1916 and the R.P. RITHET burned at sea the following year. The captain navigated one of the ship's boats with the carpenter's folding rule by which he determined the angle of the sun. The man at right is Ernest Adermann, later second mate on the FALLS OF CLYDE. Adermann left a rich legacy of photographs (developed on board) of life in that vessel."[CR][CR]One of the Fred Klebingat donor cards says that this photograph was assigned "Captain Klebingat's caption number 56" and was an Aderman photograph.
