German steamers dressed for the Emperor's birthday at Railroad Wharf, Honolulu, Hawaii, 1916
The rigging of the FALLS OF CLYDE (built 1878; bark, 4m) is visible at the left. Pier 19. Additional information included inside the negative enclosure: "German steamers dressed over the tops for the German Emperor's Birthday in 1916. It shows the Railroad Dock at Honolulu. These ships had made Honolulu as a port of refuge, when World War I broke out. The rigging of the 'FALLS OF CLYDE' is visible on the left of the photo, we are laying at Pier 19 and have breasted over from the empty space visible at the Railroad wharf. The large steamer is the Hamburg American Co.'s freighter 'HOLSATIA' on the extreme right is the 'PRINZ WALDEMAR' between them is the 'LOONGMOON' and the Staatssekretair Kraetke.' The sailing vessel is probably the 'GEORGE CURTISS''." Also included is a longer typed letter with more information. Aderman Collection #10A[CR][CR]One of the Fred Klebingat donor cards says that this photograph was assigned "Captain Klebingat's caption number 10A" and was an Aderman photograph.
