Annie L. (built 1900; scow schooner), with load of hay. At the Hay Wharf, 3rd and Channel Streets, San Francisco, CA, undated
View includes several other unid. scow schooners loaded with hay. Image is reproduced in John Kemble's book, "San Francisco Bay: A Pictorial Maritime History," pg. 85 with the following caption:[CR] "The end of the trip: scows unloading at the San Francisco hay wharf....The hay wharf was on the Third Street Channel, and here scows from river landings and points around the bay brought their cargoes. Their shallow draft made it possible for them to load on creeks and sloughs where other craft could not penetrate. In the foreground is the scow schooner ANNIE L., built in 1900 at Hunter's Point by Emil Munder. Berthed inside her is PAUL & WILLIE, a John J. Dirks-built schooner of 1884.
